John Yancey
Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago he is influenced to create art that represents the vibrant and sometimes volatile social, political, and artistic developments of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s.
He is a multidisciplinary artist creating murals, ceramic mosaics, paintings, and drawings. Striving to create works that carry the potential to act as agents of continuing cultural inquiry and critique his art uses cultural symbols, personal metaphors, and storytelling to deal with issues of race, politics, and retaining culture.
